Gabriel Ross Inc., home to over 100+ curated luxury furnishing brands, opened it’s new showroom in downtown Victoria in 2023. Transforming the former Gap location on Government St. into a newly expansive showroom allows their customers to further immerse themselves in Canadian and European furniture, accessories and lighting. During the 2-year renovation, finding the optimal lighting solution was a vital challenge.

With Gabriel Ross Inc. being a decorative lighting supplier, it was paramount to implement a lighting system that focused on complimenting the luminaires on display throughout the two floors. The key, functional lighting — StencilFlex® from Axis Lighting. The StencilFlex® system’s strength lies within it’s framework. The patented line-voltage delivery system offers maximum flexibility in deployment throughout a space and the ability to control layers of light where needed. The systems design seamlessly blends with the dark exposed ceiling, ensuring that the luxury pieces displayed throughout the 13,000 sqft showroom take centre stage. The flexibility also stems from the track system, which opens countless possibilities of adding lighting accents when needed, such as spotlights, egress and emergency lighting.

Ensuring the clients vision for their new space was exceeded and establishing optimal light uniformity throughout large spans and sub-sections of the ceiling, the Mac’s II Agencies Lighting Design Team generated ceiling plan calculations, 3D models and pseudo heat maps to transform thoughts into visual concepts.

In addition to establishing ambient lighting, we also worked closely with Gabriel Ross Inc. and the talents at BL Lighting to illuminate a custom display fixture. The 36 compartment chair display, strategically placed in the middle of the space provides an attractive backdrop and allows individual chairs to take their place centre stage. Giving each compartment dimension, BL Lighting’s infamous flexFORM tape lighting was integrated into the structure providing backlighting to each piece.

Cooper Lighting Solutions: Neo-Ray was also utilized to assemble a suspended wooden ceiling feature with integrated lighting above transaction counters on both levels.

With the showroom becoming a staple landmark for downtown Victoria’s revitalization and Gabriel Ross Inc. celebrating 30-years, we’re thrilled to have collaborated on this project and contribute to this new chapter.
