Prospera Place, the proud home of the Kelowna Rockets, needed to correct its lighting to meet WHL (Western Hockey League) compliance, ensuring player safety and optimal audience viewing. The arena was also eager to enhance the game day experience for Rockets fans with thrilling colour that floods the entire rink.

The existing lighting system provided inconsistent illumination on vertical and horizontal planes for HD cameras. With the previous system, installed a few years prior, unable to resolve these critical compliance concerns, Mac’s II Agencies was called upon for their expertise in creating proper, even illumination.

The solution was upgrading to the Ephesus Sports Lighting System technology by Cooper Lighting Solutions. Utilized by major indoor and outdoor professional sporting arenas across North America, Ephesus is known as the LED product for transforming the game. Each fixture was mounted to existing structures, and with a narrow window for installation, the Ephesus Lumasport 8’s easy assembly is a true MVP for upgrades.

The Mac’s II Agencies team of Lighting Specifiers and Control Specialists spent over 20 hours on-site, alongside Keldon Electric LTD, to assist with installation, on-the-spot troubleshooting, and ensuring precise aiming across all 92 fixtures. The complete setup exceeded the WHL lighting level requirements, provided the arena with a streamlined Acclaim Lighting Pharos control system with 3 touchscreens, and allows them to vibrantly build upon the excitement during the game with the 6 new Ephesus Prism RGBA’s colour-changing lights.

Collaborating closely with Falcon Engineering, Keldon Electric LTD and Wesco’s Distribution Center in Kelowna, we were able to coordinate complex logistics and lead time issues smoothly, ensuring limited interference with scheduled rink time as well as meeting the opening day deadline.

When upgrading a lighting system, it’s vital to have lighting design teams and electrical engineers collaborate closely to ensure the illumination is done right. The teamwork by all parties involved was highly appreciated, and the first face-off with the new lighting and control system was a resounding success!
