Port Coquitlam, BC Leigh Square Fountain

Overview

In spring 2025, the City of Port Coquitlam unveiled a transformed Leigh Square, reimagined as a vibrant, accessible, and welcoming gathering place in the heart of downtown. At the heart of the renewed plaza, a Bellagio-style programmable dancing fountain is integrated directly into the paving—three interlocking rings where jets rise, fall, and sweep through choreographed patterns with vibrant colours that turn the square into a shared civic moment.

To bring the fountain’s performances to life after dark, 36 in-ground Aqua Drums by Acclaim Lighting are embedded directly into the plaza surface, allowing light to feel integral to the architecture rather than added on. Purpose-built for public, water-forward environments, the fixtures are walk-over rated, fully submersible, and finished in marine-grade stainless steel. The RGBW output adds the flexibility to shape vibrant colour and crisp white light as each show unfolds. The result is an experience where illumination doesn’t compete with the water, it complements it, layering vibrant, shifting colour and clarity into each sequence so the choreography reads from across the square.

Designed for scheduled shows that synchronize music and lighting, the system delivers regular moments of spectacle that invite people to linger, return, and experience Leigh Square in a new way. Equal parts placemaking and performance, the fountain helps set the tone for a revitalized downtown destination, one that feels lively, communal, and unmistakably Port Coquitlam.
