Prince George, BC KPMG Office: Prince George

Overview

KPMG’s Prince George office renovation aimed to invigorate the space with a design that combined modern energy with local character. Brought in by Chernoff Thompson Architect North, we collaborated closely to develop a comprehensive lighting and controls package that aligned with the client’s vision of creating a refreshed, vibrant environment. Every lighting decision was purposeful, focusing on reducing glare, optimizing the existing t-bar grid, and highlighting key architectural elements like custom woodwork.

A focal point of the renovation was the reception area, where lighting played a critical role in shaping the overall atmosphere. BL Lighting’s LED tape lighting was thoughtfully integrated into a reverse cove, casting a soft, inviting glow that emphasized the richness of the wood finishes. This subtle, layered lighting added a sense of warmth and elegance, allowing the space to feel both professional and welcoming. Additionally, BL FlexForm lighting was recessed into the floating shelves at the coffee bar, an eye-catching feature within the reception area, providing functional task lighting while maintaining a clean, minimalist aesthetic.

One of the most distinctive aspects of the project was the integration of Aron Lighting’s Duo and Quad luminaires. These fixtures were selected for their seamless fit into the t-bar ceiling system. The minimalist design not only delivers exceptional illumination but also preserves the ceiling’s clean lines, avoiding the clutter typical of traditional lighting systems. In the boardroom, the Aron Duo was meticulously aligned with the table, creating a continuous line of light that reinforced the sleek, professional aesthetic of the room.

However, in some areas, the t-bar grid did not align as anticipated, which would have created exposed channels within the Aron Quad luminaires. In response, Aron Lighting quickly developed and delivered a custom 3D-printed filler solution, ensuring a perfect fit and preserving the visual integrity of the clean design.

In the open office area, PureEdge Lighting’s Cirrus MIYO tri-arm luminaire was strategically positioned to mirror the desk configurations, balancing form and function. The geometric purity of these fixtures introduced a sense of rhythm and structure to the workspace, enhancing both its visual appeal and lighting performance.

To further elevate the functionality of the space, Mac’s II Agencies specified and commissioned Cooper Lighting Solutions’ Wavelinx control system. This advanced system enables seamless control of all lighting elements, allowing the office to adapt to a range of needs, from task-specific brightness adjustments to energy-saving automation. Emergency lighting was also thoughtfully integrated into the design, meeting safety standards without compromising the overall aesthetic.

The KPMG Prince George office renovation showcases how thoughtful lighting design, combined with cutting-edge technology and a collaborative approach, can transform a space. Through custom solutions and the integration of locally inspired materials, we successfully fulfilled the client’s vision of a modern, energetic, and visually captivating workplace.
