Overview
The new Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) in Abbotsford is a study in restraint and precision. Designed by Site Lines Architecture, and structural design and engineering by StructureCraft, the space blends mass timber, daylight, and intentional lighting to create an environment that simply feels right. While Site Lines led the lighting design, our team worked closely with them to curate a lighting package that perfectly realized their vision—selecting alternates, coordinating suppliers, and ensuring every detail supported the architecture.
Using Sculpt, a linear pendants from Axis Lighting, throughout provided a uniform, visually quiet layer of illumination that let the DLT and natural wood take centre stage. Wall-wash and regressed lens options meant hallways read evenly, while feature walls and elevator cores were gently highlighted without adding new fixtures. In the meeting rooms, PureEdge Pipeline linear beams floated effortlessly above tables, their wide 176-degree spread complementing simplified ceilings and minimal overhead clutter.
The four-storey stairwell presented its own challenges. Narrow, tall, and enclosed by a curtain wall, it demanded a fixture both safe and sculptural. SPI Lighting Pavo 2″ cylinders, suspended at various lengths, created a cascading vertical chandelier. The acrylic tubes weren’t just beautiful, they were essential to meeting seismic requirements. Thirteen pendants dance through the stairwell, moving with occupants while remaining entirely unobtrusive.
Exterior lighting required a similarly careful approach. Traditional recessed pots weren’t compatible with the DLT soffit, so wiring was fed from above and ultra-slim downlights, from Cooper Lighting Solutions: HALO, mounted directly to junction boxes. The result is a clean, minimal look perfectly aligned with the building’s refined aesthetic.
Our team played a pivotal role in ensuring smooth delivery and coordination between all project stakeholders. From conducting delivery checks and leading coordination meetings, we supported every step to help the lighting run seamlessly.
The result is lighting that disappears in the best way: never overwhelming, always supporting. It lets the architecture shine, feels effortless, and makes the SDA office a space where perfect lighting simply feels right.
