Overview
The Lheidli T’enneh Health Centre, located in Prince George, BC, is a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide comprehensive healthcare services to the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation and the surrounding community. The centre boasts two patient examination rooms, offices, a boardroom, a lab room for water testing and medical supplies, accessible bathrooms with lifts for elder care, a mobile support room for counselling, a kitchen, and multiple meeting rooms.
The construction of the health centre faced significant challenges, primarily due to delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting supply chain strain. However, the flexible timelines and understanding of the end users allowed for adjustments, ensuring the project’s success.
The lighting and controls design of the Lheidli T’enneh Health Centre was meticulously planned to enhance the architectural beauty of the building while ensuring the comfort and functionality required for various activities. The lighting solutions were tailored to create a welcoming atmosphere in gathering spaces and provide the necessary illumination in offices and clinical rooms for healthcare professionals.
A standout feature of the lighting design is the use of Corelite InDepth fixtures from Cooper Lighting Solutions in the patient rooms. The regress curves lens of the Corelite InDepth reduces glare, providing optimal visual comfort for patients and staff. These fixtures are designed to create architectural ceiling topography, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the patient rooms while ensuring a soothing and comfortable environment for those receiving care.
The exterior lighting is highlighted by the Lumark Crosstour LED outdoor wall mount lights from Cooper Lighting Solutions. These luminaires provide an architectural aesthetic and are very energy-efficient, with a high lumen output. The Crosstour’s low-profile, rugged die-cast aluminum construction, stainless steel hardware, and sealed optical compartment make it ideal for ensuring that the exterior of the health centre is both illuminated and secure, contributing to the facility’s overall appeal and safety.
The centre serves as a vital healthcare facility and as a cultural and community hub. The successful completion of this project, despite supply chain challenges, highlights the collaborative spirit and determination of the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation and its partners. The health centre stands as a testament to the community’s sense of ownership and commitment to providing a safe and welcoming space for the Lheidli T’enneh members to receive medical care.
